The Johnny Appleseed Story – Truth or Fiction?

Video 17 of our Series, Around the USA in 90 Days!

This time we are in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the final stomping ground of John Chapman, AKA Johnny Appleseed. And while General Wayne is credited with the City name after conquering the native american Miami Indians tribe ( then known by the name Kekionga), the kind-hearted Johnny Appleseed enjoyed the company of everyone, including the Indians, all of God’s creatures and his fellow white man whom he shared both sermons as well as apple seeds to grow nourishing fruit trees.

OUCH – Face plant in Winona, Minnesota, Across Mississippi to Wisconsin Dells

Video 15 of our Series, Around the USA in 90 Days!

Once in a while it’s okay to RV overnight in a Walmart (Winona, Minnesota) and the nearby lake was beautiful. Bad news – don’t run wide open with your dog on wet grass chasing a squirrel into a tree! Meanwhile, after crossing the Mississippi we enjoyed spending some time in the Wisconsin Dells before heading to Indiana.

From South Dakota Badlands to USA Minuteman Nuclear Missile Museum

Video 14 of our Series, Around the USA in 90 Days!

As we head through South Dakota to the Badlands National Park to the Minuteman Nuclear Missile National Museum, we also dropped by the Walls Drug complex after seeing all the roadside ad signs. The Badlands are, well… not a place you’d expect to see much life including vegetation but the sandstone hills and cliffs are quite remarkable – just the kind of terrain you might expect President Teddy Roosevelt to trot through on his horse. Nearby we saw a sign for the Minuteman Missile National Museum so we thought “why not?” (or at least Michael was game). That said, not many enjoy the thought of our Country being involved in a thermonuclear war so if this sort of thing doesn’t make you wonder about our National deterrent to avoid future International Wars, we certainly understand why you might want to pass seeing our Minuteman National Museum.

What Really Happened at Little Big Horn Custers Last Stand ?

Video 11 of our Series, Around the USA in 90 Days!

The year was 1876, following years of broken treaties by the white man culminating with General Custer trying to establish a military fort upon the discovery of GOLD. Great news thought pioneer settlers 3 years after the PANIC DEPRESSION of 1873. Ditto for Custer, looking to regain his reputation after showing distinguished heroism during the Confederate War, only to have later been busted during a Court Marshall for taking his troop AWOL for an unauthorized trip so he could see his beloved wife. Ambitious to quickly regain his stature as a war hero leader, General Custer jumps in to battle with the Native Americans (aka Indians) before reinforcements arrived. But he didn’t figure the natives 2,000 fierce warriors were not about to forfeit their land granted by the two treaties signed by the United States government . And now we better understand the term “Indian Giver”

Getting High Atop Beartooth Pass, 11,000 Foot in the SNOW

Video 10 of our Series, Around the USA in 90 Days!

As we left Yellowstone Park heading North-East, we spent the night at the Crazy Creek Campground. Continuing North to Billings, we climbed, climbed and climbed some more in our RV before reaching Beartooth Mountain Pass at a whopping 10,947 feet high! Best of all, our Siberian Husky Kaliki loved the opportunity to frolic in the snow – overlooking mountain sheep and an abundance of pristine lakes.

After wrapping up our tour of the Grand Tetons (North of Jackson Lake), we entered Southern Yellowstone for an awesome “spin around the Park.” Yellowstone Falls had dramatic views and of course Old Faithful Geyser is not to be missed, complete with an insightful Park Ranger talk. Best of all, in the Lamar Valley we spotted herds of thousands of Buffalo’s, and even had one walk up to us in our RV!
