Hiking in Acadia National Park – Trust the Journey

Video 34 of our Series, Around the USA in 90 Days!

When traveling cross-county, many of us map out our general route and drop some pins along our “bucket list” of favorite spots to see.

Some of us are planners, where the whole journey needs to first be mapped out and planned. Others like Michael and I are more of a “just wing it” type. We generally have a good idea of our plans between driving, taking care of our furry pupster Kaliki and stocking the RV with supplies.   Later we figure out where we are going to stay, without micro-managing our daily agenda – yeah, we’re the “wing it” couple.
So on this trip heading to the far North to York, Maine we decided that since we were only a few hundred miles to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, we continued our northerly sojourn.
To make the most of our time in the Acadia National Park, we rose early to assure we would be able to find parking for our 25 foot RV (large parking spots are few and far between). That said, the park offers a nice transit system free of charge that can take visitors around the 27-mile loop, complete with hop-on and off privileges.
We jumped off at Sand Beach and on the spur of the moment, decided to try The Great Head Trail.

2 Hours in Boston

Video 32 of our Series, Around the USA in 90 Days!

We are “back on track” with our Around the USA in 90 Days segment. We left off in the beautiful state of Massachusetts. We will pick up again in the Boston, Cambridge area. One thing you need to decide when you are traveling is how much do you plan for and how much do you just, “wing it”? For us generally our motto has been, “anyway the wind blows”. So here in Boston after working out the parking situation we took a bike ride through town. As we left Boston we stopped by Salem for a drone flight before moving into Maine. Coming next…… Lobster in York Beach heading to Bar Harbor. (Ba Haba)

Following up on Part I of our Plimouth, Massachusetts tour of the living history plantation, in Part II Grace (a descendant from the Mayflower) goes back 400 years to converse with period actors portraying the life of Pilgrim discussing their life, joys and hardships. Hmm, at first glance being an early settler with adventure and freedoms sounded GREAT… but their journey got far worse than today’s First World Problems!

Plimouth Village – Lives of Pilgrim Settlers and Native American Indians

Video 29 of our Series, Around the USA in 90 Days!

Sailing on merchant ships in the winter from Plymouth, Devon (UK) to what later became Massachusetts would be hard enough. But being unprepared for poor soil, squatting on Indian land, disease and famine meant 2 out of 3 didn’t make it during the initial years. So what’s the good news? Thousands more of your fellow Englishmen would be lusting for adventure and fortune, coming behind you to settle in the new frontier. But wait, there’s more – then there were the Dutch, French and the Spanish to contend with as well… and their religions and edicts from their leaders!

From Fort Adams to Newport Beach, Rhode Island

We spent the night at Point Judith State Park (Fishermans Memorial) only to find it rained all night, so no biking the next day. No problemo, we continued on to Newport Beach and checked out the mansions including the Breakers, Marble Mansion, Great Gatsby home and more. Finally, we enjoyed the scenic and impressive Fort Adams. Rhode Island gets its share of rain yet no wonder it truly has verdant views.

We’re BACK (laptop crash while on our trip) and our next episode comes from Hartford, Connecticut where we visit the home of Mark Twain. Starting is life with so little, Samuel Clemens was ever a creative, adventurous man who studied life, people and what made them tick. Better yet, despite no more than a 6th grade education, Mark had a zeal to learn and share his adventures through stories well told throughout the world.
